<p style='text-align: justify;'>Photograph of Maxwell's real image stereoscope of 1856. Stereoscopic pairs of images are viewed without separate lenses for each eye. Maxwell had a series of 57 three-dimensional figures produced which could be viewed stereoscopically, either with this instrument or with his portable stereoscopic viewer.</p>
