Cavendish Laboratory

Photograph of Rutherford and Chadwick's nuclear disintegration chamber. Rutherford and Chadwick used this apparatus to refine measurements of the nuclear disintegration of different atomic nuclei. It was an improvement over the apparatus used by Rutherford in his pioneering experiments of 1915 to 1919, published in 1919. Rutherford inferred that nuclei were disintegrated in these collision. They repeated the experiments for many other substances.
