<p style='text-align: justify;'>A variation of the Jackson X-ray tube with the bulb offset from the long axis of the tube, perhaps to minimize the heating of the glass. This tube was made by J.J. Thomson's personal assistant, E. Everett. Everett and W.H. Hayles took X-ray photographs of patients brought by doctors to the Cavendish Laboratory (see P27). At the same time, Thomson was investigating the nature of X-rays and their influence on the conductivity of gases.</p>
