<p style='text-align: justify;'>Sir Ralph Howard Fowler was appointed college lecturer in mathematics at Trinity College in 1920. In 1932 he was elected to the Chair of Theoretical Physics. He had an office next to Rutherford's in the Laboratory, although he was a member of the Mathematics faculty. His work concentrated on thermodynamics and statistical physics. In 1921, he became Rutherford's son-in-law when he married the Rutherfords' only daughter, Eileen.</p>
