This famous image shows Searle supervising a practical class in physics in the teaching laboratory on the first floor of the back (east) wing of the original Cavendish building. Searle was a brilliant inventor of physics practical experiments and set the standard for excellence in practical physics. Note the presence of a woman student in the class.</p>
