<p style='text-align: justify;'>Sir William Cecil Dampier Whetham was a demonstrator in the Cavendish during Thomson's professorship. He gave a Part II lecture course on electrolysis and made important contributions to this field. He developed a method of extracting lactose (milk sugar) from whey and was knighted for his services to agriculture.</p>
