Black and white photograph of the young Maxwell with his colour wheel. This famous image of Maxwell was taken in 1855 while he was a fellow of Trinity College. He is holding his colour wheel with which he carried out experiments on the three colour theory of colour vision. These experiments led to the need for more precise experiments with his colour box.
