<p style='text-align: justify;'>Black and white quarter length portrait of Maxwell in middle age. Maxwell was well known in Cambridge and no one doubted his originality and brilliance. He had demonstrated outstanding ability in experimental and theoretical physics and was ideally matched to the requirements of the electors to the newly founded Cavendish Professorship of Experimental Physics.</p>
