<p style='text-align: justify;'>The 1930 Cockcroft-Walton accelerator. The accelerating tube is on the right and the voltage multiplying circuit is in the centre. This accelerator was the precursor of the 1932 machine. Although it generated a high enough voltage, no nuclear fission events were observed. A rectifier tube from this machine is all that has been preserved and is in the Museum at the Cavendish Laboratory.</p>
