<p style='text-align: justify;'>Annual photograph of Cavendish staff and research students, 1898. J.J. Thomson, the Cavendish Professor, is in the centre of the front row. This was Rutherdord's last year at the Cavendish before moving to McGill University in Canada, as well as the only year in which Paul Langevin is present in the annual photograph. Growth in the numbers of students compared with the previous year is noticeable and was mostly associated with the influx of non-Cambridge graduates (see P575).</p>
