<p style='text-align: justify;'>The second generation of research students after the first World War I in 1920. Rutherford had been appointed Cavendish Professor in 1919. Many of the research students later became famous for their research work. Besides JJ Thomson and Rutherford, prominent researchers included Ellis, Chadwick, G.P. Thomson and Appleton. Compton was a visitor on a USA National Research Council Fellowship for one year.</p>
