Cavendish Laboratory : Aston with his apparatus for separating isotopes by distillation (1914)

Cavendish Laboratory

Black and white photograph of Aston working with his apparatus for the separation of isotopes by distillation. Racks of distilled gases in bottles are on the wall behind him. In the distillation process, the isotopes have different vapour pressures because of the differences in their isotopic masses. The lighter masses distill first.
