<p style='text-align: justify;'>Black and white photograph of the second Siemens electron microscope acquired by the Cavendish Laboratory in 1955. R Horne is shown using the microscope. Werner von Siemens founded the German company Siemens in the mid-19th century. In 1931, Max Knoll and Ernst Ruska developed the first electron microscope prototype. Between 1938-39, Ruska at Siemens built the first commercial transmission microscope.</p>
