Cavendish Laboratory : Rayleigh's spinning coil apparatus for the determination of the ohm, 1880
Cavendish Laboratory

Rayleigh's spinning coil apparatus was inspired by Maxwell's programme to measure the absolute value of the Ohm. This apparatus provided as good absolute measurements as any, providing an important contribution to the international standardisation of the Ohm and establishing the reputation of the Laboratory in precise measurement.
