Detail of the central part of the ground plan of the New Museums Site revised in February 1963, but originally created in June 1958, shortly after the establishment of the Physics and Chemistry of Solids group. In 1962, the molecular biologists, who had occupied the MRC Hut, moved to the new Laboratory for Molecular Biology on the Addenbrooke's Hospital site. Thanks to a grant of £45,000 obtained by Mott, an additional floor on the top of the Austin Wing was built to house the theoretical physicists.
