Cavendish Laboratory : Floor plan of the second floor of the Rayleigh Wing and the South Wing
Cavendish Laboratory

The original laboratory designed by Maxwell was opened in 1874. The south wing was built by Thomson in 1896 partly from money from the University and partly from students fees accumulated by Thomson. The Rayleigh Wing was opened in 1908, thanks to the generosity of Lord Rayleigh who donated £5,000 of his Nobel Prize award for this project.
