<p style='text-align: justify;'>Black and white photograph of Bruce Elsmore at the control panel of the One-mile radio telescope at Lord's Bridge in 1967. The radio observatory moved to a disused wartime Air Ministry bomb store at Lord's Bridge in 1957. The One-Mile Telescope was completed in 1964 and consisted of three 120 ton, 18 m diameter antennae. It was the first fully steerable Earth-rotation Aperture Synthesis radio telescope. Ryle was awarded the 1974 Nobel Prize in Physics for the development of aperture synthesis techniques.</p>
