Kapitsa proposed setting up a laboratory for low temperature and high magnetic field physics to Rutherford in early 1930. £15,000 was obtained from the Royal Society Mond fund, set up thanks to the generosity of Ludwig Mond. The Laboratory, opened in 1933, was named the Royal Society Mond Laboratory.</p>
