Cavendish Laboratory : The 4C Long Antenna at the Lord's Bridge Radio Observatory

Cavendish Laboratory

Black and white photograph of the 4C long cylindrical paraboloid antenna at Lord's Bridge. The 4C radio telescope was constructed to carry out a survey of the northern sky at a wavelength of 178 MHz. The telescope was a radio interferometer which used the principles of aperture synthesis to survey the sky as it passed overhead. The resolution was sufficiently high that the effects of confusion were small.
