Cavendish Laboratory

Colour photograph of Kapitsa's crocodile carved by David Gill on the Mond Building. Kapitsa persuaded Rutherford to obtain the resources to build the Mond Laboratory for low temperature research. Before the opening, Kapitsa organised the carving of the crocolile on the outside wall of the Laboratory. 'Crocodile' was Kapitsa'a nickname for Rutherford.
