Darwin Manuscripts

<p style='text-align: justify;'>Carl Kraus, an engineer from Bohemia, sent this photograph to Charles Darwin in February 1878 with the hope that Darwin would add it to the album of German and Austrian scientists (EH 88202652) he had received as a birthday present in 1877. Kraus signed the photograph 'Charles Kraus', and added 'a sign of unalterable admiration'.</p> <p style='text-align: justify;'>Further information:<br /> <br /> <a target='_blank' class='externalLink' href='https://www.darwinproject.ac.uk/letter/?docId=letters/DCP-LETT-11351.xml'>Letter from Carl Kraus to Charles Darwin, 10 February 1878</a> <br /> <br /> <a target='_blank' class='externalLink' href='http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/home-of-charles-darwin-down-house/history/'>History of Down House, English Heritage website</a> <br /> <br /> <a target='_blank' class='externalLink' href='https://www.darwinproject.ac.uk/people/german-and-dutch-photograph-albums'>German and Dutch photograph albums, Darwin Correspondence Project website</a> </p>
