<p style='text-align: justify;'>On 16 November 1936, the Royal Commonwealth Society (then known as the Royal Empire Society) opened its new headquarters building on Northumberland Avenue, which was designed by Sir Herbert Baker. These lantern slides formed part of a comprehensive collection of photographs taken to record the event. Slides of some of the society’s branch headquarters were also included.</p>
