<p style='text-align: justify;'>An album containing prints measuring approximately 205 x 150 mm or 290 x 230 mm. The album has a decorative hand-painted title page reading: 'This selection of photographic subjects is presented by the Railways and Harbours Department of the Union of South Africa [signed] [illegible], Minister 1925'. There are captions (in gold ink) beneath the photographs, which have been used as titles. The titles may include language which is offensive, inaccurate or inappropriate. They have been retained to reflect the context of the collection's creation. Titles supplied by the cataloguer are enclosed in square brackets.The collection, which forms a comprehensive selection of views of landscape, architecture, industry, farming and daily life, can be roughly broken down into the following categories: 1-73 scenes in the Cape; 74-75 Eastern Transvaal; 76-119 Natal; 120-121 daily life in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe); 122-135 Transvaal; 136-150 Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe); 151-154 Orange Free State (also known as Free State); 155-161 livestock farming in the Transvaal and Natal; 162-169 scenes in Kimberley, 170-177 mining in the Transvaal, Natal and the Cape; 178-183 Transvaal, mainly Pretoria; 184-201 scenes in Johannesburg; 202-207 Cango Caves, Oudtshoorn, Cape.</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>Photographers unknown.</p>
