Its dedication reads, 'These photographs, illustrating life and scenes in India, are presented in the hope that they will help to make the land and the people of the Indian Empire better known and understood.’</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>The ancient city of Peshawar has long been a site of strategic importance due to its location near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, a historic caravan route into central Asia. At this time, it was administrative centre of the North-West Frontier Province of British India.
