<p style='text-align: justify;'> The text of Dioscorides' pharmacopoeia, De materai medica translated into Italian, supplemented with Pietro Andrea Mattioli's Commentaries, which add to the number of plants described in the text. Bequeathed to Peterhouse by John Bargrave (1610-80), canon of Canterbury Cathedral, fellow of Peterhouse from 1637 until he was ejected on parliamentary authority in 1644. Bargrave travelled extensively on the Continent during the Interregnum, acquiring many books and curiosities.</p><p style='text-align: justify;'>Many of the drawings of plants have been annotated with their English names, probably by John Bargrave.</p>
