Peterhouse : Qur'an

Peterhouse

The first Latin edition of the Qur'an, edited by Theodore Bibliander from the medieval translation of Robert of Ketton and Hermannus Dalmata under the direction of Peter the Venerable. Published by Joannes Oporinus in Basel, the imprimatur was only granted on the condition that the volume contained a refutation of the doctrines of the Qur'an: this took the form of a preface penned by Martin Luther.

The volume belonged to Andrew Perne (1519? - 1589; Master of Peterhouse, 1553/4 - 1589), and his marginal notation can be found throughout.
