Morton, Thomas 1564-1659

Cambridge Bookbindings

A pleasing example of the effects which could be achieved by gilt-tooling creamy white parchment or vellum; this was made in Cambridge not long after it was printed, using the new toolset associated initially with Henry Moody (including the flying pheasant).

Limp parchment laced-case binding, gilt-tooled on the covers and spine. Undyed leaf edges; plain paper flyleaves and stubs, no pastedowns.

Dr David Pearson
