There is significant creasing, especially the marks of folds; the upper, lower and foredges of both folios have previously been folded in. There is discoloration and widespread fading and abrasion of ink within the area of these creases and various stains, while much of the lower parts of ff. 1v-2r is obscured by thickly ingrained dirt.
  • Binding:

The folios have been sewn together at some point since becoming detached from their manuscript, with two different types of thread.

  • Accompanying Material: The fragment was previously accompanied by a note by W.H.D. Rouse: "Some odd leaves of MS I found—got after the others".
  • Script:

The text has been copied in an upright mixed minuscule script, in black ink, with modest variation in letter size.

Syllabic abbreviations and superscript word endings appear only at the end of lines. Breathings are round and mute iota is absent. There is decorative use of the double dot and accentuation of all nomina sacra. Accents are sometimes joined to abbreviations and nomina sacra strokes.

Punctuation used includes the middle and upper points and question mark.

  • Layout: Two columns of 28 lines each. Written height: 178 mm, width: 128 mm. There is no discernible ruling.
  • Additions: The number 2 in blue crayon on f. 1v indicates this item's place in the sequence of Christ's College Library fragments.
  • Provenance: Owned by the classicist and teacher W.H.D. Rouse (1863-1950), Honorary Fellow of Christ's.
  • Origin: The style of script suggests that the manuscript from which this came was copied in the second half of the 12th or the 13th century.
